Welcome to Marketing School, the only podcast that provides daily top level marketing tips and strategies from entrepreneurs that practice what they preach and live what they teach. Let's start leveling up your marketing knowledge with your instructors, Neil Patel and Eric Sue. All right, guys, before we start, we got a special message from our sponsor. If you want to rank higher on Google, you gotta look at your page speed time. The faster website loads, the better off you are with Google's Core Vital update. That makes it super super important to optimize your site for low time. And one easy way to do it is use the host that Eric and I use, dream Hosts. So just go to dream host or Google it, find it, check it out, and it's a great way to improve your low time. Welcome to another episode of Marketing School. I'm Eric Sue and I'm Neil Patel, and today we're going to talk about how to skyrocket your search traffic without spending a cent. So look right now, you know you won't be able to spend the money that you normally would on marketing. That's fine. One thing that you should do and we talked a little about this in previous episodes is there's more people online right now. A lot of sites are seeing a surge in search in traffic in general, whether it's direct or search. One thing that I would highly recommend that you do is go look at your content that is just killing it in the last seven days according to Google Search Console and update those pages. Could you not update them? Adjust the title tags? You can use clickflow for that, do some tests, adjust the content, make it more thorough more relevant. And what you'll find is, and we've been doing this, what you'll find is, especially right now, you'll see the impact of those changes way faster than you normally would. Yeah, and actually not to toot my own horne on this, what clickflow allows you to when you're upgrading your pieces of content, We'll show you what keywords you need to be adding and how many words are in there, and we'll actually grade it for you. So you can check that out. There's a free trial for that. And what I would say too is if you want to skyrocket your search traffic during these times, there's a concept called newsjacking, meaning because we're very day to date right now, there's all these new things happening. For example, the Paycheck Protection Program. As of this recording, it basically rolled out today in the United States, and it's a government grant. And basically, if you thought beforehand, if you're keeping an eye on this, you would say, Okay, what are people interested in right now? They want to know how much money they can get forgiven right or they want to know, you know, maybe how much money they can get right. So I'm just thinking a lot. I'm making things up right now, but I'm saying, you know this new bill is going to pass. If you made a widget and you knew what people are going to search for, you would be there today and then people be searching. You'd skyrocket up to the search results and you would be able to kind of take advantage there because you're providing value to people. Right. That's not to say you're going to get like the most relevant traffic, but it does skyrocket your search traffic. When you're on top of trends. Yeah, the other thing that you should do is look for what's trending right now. Now you Google trend and start writing content around those subjects. Buzzsoomo also shows you what's trending at the current moment. This will give you all ideas of stuff that you should be creating, because if you're creating content that's more relevant that people want to read right now, you're going to get more traffic as well. You'll find you'll get the traffic not just from search, but you also get it from Google Discover, which is a huge source. It's the version of a social network. You'll get a quick boost from there and it can be thousands and thousands of visits. So that's worth it as well, especially if you're writing on what's trending right then and there, you'll find that you'll get more Google Discover traffic than if you're not going after trending topics. All right, So power pages this is a concept we've talked about in the past, and this is from our mutual friend Brian Dean. But the whole idea behind this is similar to upgrading, but you take a couple of pages that you might have. So let's say I'm writing a piece on conversion rate optimization, and I know I have multiple conversion rate optimization pieces. Well, what's to say I can't combine it into one giant page, have a couple chapters in there, and then the search engine just indexes one page. You have a bunch of you know, words on there that's going to help you get more long tail traffic, and you're consolidating kind of the attention to one page. So you can do pillar pages, that's one option, or you can do power pages. But historically these have proven to do really well. And we've talked about in a long time ago, Neil used to spend you know, thirty thousand dollars for a really nicely designed piece of content fourteen chapters or so, and typically he would rank number one for that. I don't know if those guys are still up, Neil. Most of them are gone. They're down. The new quicks Run owners removed most of them. Dude, you should get them back. And it's okay, it was good content, but you know it's probably all that one ended. Yeah, the content would have to be updated. And the problem with them is when I created those pillar pages of content, I spend a lot of money on design, which sounds cool, but when you do really custom designs, it actually makes it harder to update your content. Oh there's a key lesson there, and you did that probably eight years ago. So yeah, something like that was a big lesson I learned because everyone's like, yeah, design, design, design, and I was pushing so hard on it. But what most people don't realize is the crazier design the harder is to update your content. That's a problem to solve for the future. If someone wants to make a product that does not anything else, that's it. Make sure you rate review this podcast, especially if you're on iTunes. We would really appreciate it.
