You're listening to Marketing School with your instructors Neil Patel and Eric Sue. All right, guys, before we start, we got a special message from our sponsor. If you want to rank higher on Google, you gotta look at your page speed time. The faster website loads, the better off you are with Google's Core Vital update. That makes it super super important to optimize your site for low time. And one easy way to do it is use the host that Eric and I use, dream Hosts. So just go to dream host or Google it, find it, check it out, and it's a great way to improve your low time. Welcome to another episode of Marketing School. I'm Eric Sue and I'm meilte Met. Today we are going to talk about how you can control one of Google, not just rank one. Yeah, a lot of people their goal is to rank number one on Google, and that's fine, but why not rank number one and two and control more of the first page even with multiple sites, And it is possible. Eric and I have both done this and today we're going to share how you can do it as well. Yeah, so I guess the first thing is we look, here's a good example that I use in the past, like online marketing, that keyword Neil's face actually occupies and that's not Neil's face, but Neil's stamp occupies both quick sprout and neopatel dot com. So that's one way of doing it where you have two authoritative sites that have done a really good job with the piece of content. But also, don't think, don't forget about ranking zero. Ranking zero is one of the things where you can occupy that that answer box where like if people are asking for a query like what is digital marketing, you do a good job of optimizing your H one and then also defining kind of what that thing is, and then you can rank zero. And that way you have ranked zero and you have another top ranking inside of that page. Plus there's more you can do, by the way. Yeah, when you're trying to rank zero. The other thing that you need to keep in mind is it's a lot of it comes down to title tax. So what Google does is they look at who's generating the most amount of clicks and when you're trying to dominate the first page. If you can come up with the most appealing title tags, you'll do really well. And you can't do that with all your pages, right because if you have twenty pages, you know, and you have the most appealing title tags, they're not going to all rank. But make sure you're testing them out, and you can use tools like clickflow to test them out and run ab tests. And you don't want to do this on just one page, but you want to do it on multiple pages and with your pages. So let's say you're trying to go after the term SEO or online marketing, you're going to have multiple pages on that same piece of content. Don't duplicate your content. So one could be on online marketing for Beginners, another one could be online Marketing Tools, another one could be online Marketing The Advanced Guide to Online Marketing. And you get the point. You can keep going on and on the top one hundred and one online marketing conferences that you have to attend by keeping them all different, and then when you start cross linking them, you'll know that you have better chances to take up more of the first page. And when you're doing that, you need to make sure you test your title tags, because if you don't test your title tags, a lot of them won't rank because they're not appealing. It's just not about having the keywords in there. It's about making people want to click. The stat that goes is eight out of ten people will read your headline, only two out of ten will click through and read the rest. Make sure you're getting more than two out of ten by creating an amazing headline. The final thing I'll add from my side before I need to use the restroom real quick is don't forget by the way you have Google ads. Look, if you don't want to spend money on the typical Google ads where it's like super expensive, you can still do remarking for search ads or remarking search whatever. It's called URLSA. Okay, So you can do that. And if someone's visiting your site and you want to target them for like a keyword that you know it gets a lot of volume and that you rank for, you can certainly do that. It's much more okay to pay for that higher cost because they visit your site, so they're a little more qualified. You're going to occupy more real estate. Let's say you occupy the ad real estate. I did the rake zero and then maybe the answer box or the maybe there's like like the four box, and then maybe you occupy like a typical organic result. My god, you're occupying like way more than just one position, and that's going to make you look like a much stronger business or you know, personality or website, Neil anything else. I'm gonna go run to the restauranteah, go run to Russiroam. I'll take care of the rest of the episode. So now what can we talk about Eric while he's gone. I'm kidding. I love him to death. So there's a few other things that you need to know if you want to dominate the first page. One, consider creating multiple sites. You don't have to fully own all the sites. You can end up leveraging a Facebook business page. You can end up leveraging a Twitter profile. You can end up leveraging your I don't know, LinkedIn profile, you name it. You can be guest posting on other websites. These are always to take up more of the first page. I was talking with a guy named Leo from Buffer and a Good Way. Leo ended up growing his company was he guest posted and Leo didn't do this for backlinks, and he wasn't caring if tens of sites linked to him and he can rank higher on Google for his own term. He's just writing articles related to social media marketing tools. And as people started googling, there would be sites from entrepreneur, Huffing, to post, inc. The list keeps going on and on. These were all sites where a lot of them were sites that Leo guest posted on. And this is a great way because they're reading all this content and a lot of them are promoting his own business. Maybe not as number one, maybe not as number two, but you know a lot of the listings were promoting his business somewhere in that article. Guest posting is a really good strategy. So then that way you don't have to maintain all these sites. Instead you're leveraging other people's websites. You can also do simple things that create your own websites. I do think it's a pain in the behind if you want to have two or three competing sites. I've had a few friends who've done this. I've done this as well, and I wish I just did it with one website instead of having two or three websites. Another thing that you could do is if you really want to dominate the first page is update your content. So a lot of your content pieces that are starting to rank because it's not that hard to get two pages, especially if you're interlinking them. If you want to end up ranking higher. A lot of people just write the content, they forget it and call it a day, but over time you'll notice that your pages will decrease in ranking. On the flip side, if you update the content because Google is looking for more fresh content these days, you'll notice that your rankings will do better over time and they'll maintain SETI And the last tip I have for you is to use HRS link Intersect feature. This will show you everyone who links your competitors but they don't link to you. Then you can then hit up those sites, talk about your articles, get them to link back to them, and it'll help boost the rankings for multiple pages on your site. So that's pretty much it. Now, you guys have some strategies and tactics to dominating the first page instead of just ranking one listing one URL.
