Welcome to Marketing School, the only podcast that provides daily top level marketing tips and strategies from entrepreneurs that practice what they preach and live what they teach. Let's start leveling up your marketing knowledge with your instructors, Neil Patel and Eric Sue. All right, guys, before we start, we got a special message from our sponsor. If you want to rank higher on Google, you got to look at your page speed time. The faster website loads, the better off you are with Google's Core Vital update that makes it super super important to optimize your site for low time. And one easy way to do it is use the host that Eric and I use, dream Hosts. So just go to dream host or google it, find it, check it out, and it's a great way to improve your load time. Today we're going to talk about how Eric would create another book myself, but Neil won't. So Neil, let's talk about what your book was first, and then why you won't, and then I'll go Sure. So my book I co authored with a few people. It was on entrepreneurship. If I had to write another book, it would be on marketing. But the reason I wouldn't write another book is I think books can do wonders and getting your brand out there. The problem is you have to write a book in the right sector, so for me, it would have to be around marketing. The problem with all the stuff I woul write around in marketing, most of the stuff changes so fast because of algorithms. Right Google's releasing what roughly nine algorithm updates a day. Facebook constantly changes, Instagram constantly changes. The issue is is by the time the book gets published and out there, it would be too outdated. So the only purpose of me of writing a book would be you can't do it on marketing. It would just be extra brand recognition. But I think you can get more leveraged by just posting content for free on social media than writing a book that may get outdated by the time it gets published. Now, again that's just for me, and if your goals for branding by all means, go and create a book. But I still think there's a better ROI from just creating a ton of content putting it on the social web. Seeming you have to choose from one ano the other. Cool. So my take on this is so I'm my book leveling up and a lot of people ask me like, why didn't you just do a marketing book, which, to Neil's it makes a lot of sense, right, It's just it's kind of the next logical thing. But for me, I'd rather it's much more of a philosophical book for myself, and it's really to help reframe for the three billion gamers in the world. Right. You know a lot of the stuff I'm saying is definitely new to gamers, but not so much to kind of people in the business world, or the self help world, whatever you want to say. And so if it's a philosophical book, it can stand a test of time. So if I'm looking to write books I'm looking for it's called the Lindy effect. Right, So you hear about how to win friends and influence people all the time. You hear about influence, You hear about me talking about break through advertising. A lot of these books are, you know, eighty years, one hundred years plus old. So the Lindy effect means if something can last for one hundred years, it's likely to last for another one hundred years. If bitcoin's been around for ten years or so, it's likely to last for another ten years or so. So if I'm going to write stuff I want it to be, something can stand the test of time, evergreen, based on my philosophy, based on how I think, because it's my worldview. So I might do more books like that. But what I would say is, to Neil's point, I would probably co write it. So there's a difference between ghost writing and co writing. Co Writing is the actual authors, the people that wrote it. They show up so it's not just me. And then ghostwriting is you know, someone wrote it for me and you know their name's not showing right. So I would co write it and I would do something similar. So you know, even with marketing school as an example, to Neil's point, stuff changes so fast. But if Neil and I we hired a co writer to keep things up to date and just create books out of every year's volume of episodes, then you have something right because what we're talking about this year probably will last for another year or two. Some stuff might become, you know, super outdated. But that's what I would do because it would take a lot of the onus of writing off my shoulders. Because I was writing my book on and off for six years, five six years or so, and you know, it was fun doing it, but when I want to go through it again, probably not, because I had to do six or seven edits as well, and I had to control like a lot of other elements around it. So that's what I would do. And Neil, do you want to add anything else? Make sure you rate review this podcast. We would really appreciate it, and check out marketing school dot io slash live.
