That makes it super super important to optimize your site for low time. And one easy way to do it is use the host that Eric and I use, dream Hosts. So just go to dream host or google it, find it, check it out, and it's a great way to improve your low time. Welcome to another episode of Marketing School. I'm Eric Sue and I'm Neil Patel, and today we're going to talk about if the question is are you ready for this Google algorithm update in twenty twenty one? Neil, what is it? Well, this Google algorithm update is page experience, where Google is looking at how people interact with your page to determine where you should rank. Because remember right now, algorithm is mainly on things like links and content and keywords. But if users don't like your page, no matter how many links you have, should you really rank And the answer is no. So the real question is are you prepared? And if you're not, that's okay. We're going to be breaking down today how you can be prepared. So do you want to kick it off, Eric or do you want me to kick it off? I'll kick it off. So one of the core things that you want to look at are core web vitals, right, and this is actually in your Google Search console as well, So keeping your site quick, right, You want a good experience. Nobody wants a site that's going to take four or five ten seconds. And that sounds absurd because back in the day I would wait forever for you know, when I had like a two eight eight modem. But look, you want to take a look at the following things. And this isn't search console, largest content of content, full paint or content ful paint. So how quickly things are loading, first input delay, cumulative layout shift, all these things are important and if you don't understand what these are, I'll encourage you just to go to the Google search Central and just type in page experience, send it to your developers, have them look at it. Because one thing we do every week, and I'm sure Neil does this too, is we just have our developers they do a check every week if everything optimizes, Everything optimized, and they're using this this type of stuff as the foundation for how they want to optimize. Another thing that I would do is run tests on your page, whether it's key maps, do things like crazy egg to see where people are scrolling down or they clicking on images that aren't clickable, where are they all leaving your site, clicking the back when looking at mouse recordings. This will all give you ideas on what pages are not the most usable. And what I would recommend doing is, if you're going to do this, start with your most popular pages first because those are the ones that you want to make sure that you maintain those high traffic levels, if not increase them, and then go down to listen. Then work on your lower traffic pages. So you want to optimize things for usability, making sure that people know what's clickable, They're not bouncing away because they can't find what they're looking for. The page loads fast, the page is responsive, it works well for mobile and desktop as well as tablet devices. It works on all different sorts of browsers, so you may want to use tools like browser stack to see how you look on different devices. And the reason I say that is, you know iPhone has an iPhone eleven, twelve, a pro, a Max, a Mini like. The list goes on and on, and all these devices keep coming off even if they're on the same operating system. All the apps and websites still always work the same. And mobile is very important. And the reason I'm emphasizing that is Google has a Mobile First index. More people are using Google on their mobile devices than they are on their desktop device. Yeah. The thing I'll add to is, you know we're talking about interstitials, pop ups, that type of stuff. You want to make sure you're creating an ideal experience, right, So you want to make things accessible for your audience. Not saying that stuff won't work, but you know, more and more that's becoming a thing that will dock you, right. And you know, us as marketers, we know that interstitials, pop ups, that type of stuff. It tends to convert and basic type of stuff like make sure you have HTTPS. Some people still don't have it today, right, So make sure you got yourself a secure website that's going to make people right. You want to reduce the friction and reduce the anxiety for people so they can continue to have a good browsing experience, and then maybe buy some stuff on your website. And last, but not least, think about the use case and why someone's landing on this page. Not your site, it's a pageoo page basis, but why they're landing on that page and make sure you give it to them. A great example of this is I was looking at one of my heat maps and I knew that it was a blog page and it was really popular, but towards the top there's too many images and I was like, wait, if I look at the scrolling ratio and the tension, because a heat map shows that everyone's scrolling past the images and just going to the text. I'm like, huh, I should probably fix this and start putting my text higher up on the page because that'll provide more value and help me with my rankings in the long run. Yeah. The final thing I'll say from my side is Google is constantly updating this, so just look at what they're announcing you can use just go to se roundtable dot com or just Google Search Central should constantly update what page experience actually means because it's constantly in flux. So that is it for today. But if you want the latest strategies, stuff that we don't share on this podcast, over here, there's a monthly Ask Me Anything.
