STORY 1:  Teen Sentenced for Killing 15-Year-Old in Smyrna Car Crash

A Douglasville teen, Garrett Tyler Betts, has been sentenced to 15 years, serving seven, for a car crash that killed 15-year-old Ryan Chase Huckeba in Smyrna. Betts, 19, pleaded guilty to charges including first-degree vehicular homicide. The crash occurred in August 2023 when Betts was allegedly street racing at 100 mph in a 45-mph zone. He lost control, and the car hit a tree, ejecting Huckeba, who died at the scene. Betts was seriously injured. The other driver involved, Caleb Evans Hasty, has been indicted, with his case still pending.

STORY 2:     Cobb County Water System Reports 2 Sewage Overflows

The Cobb County Water System reported two sewer overflows. The first, on October 4, involved 490 gallons of wastewater due to roots at 4009 Chelsea Lane NE, Marietta, affecting Walden Creek. It was resolved the same day. The second, a larger overflow of 448,890 gallons from September 30 to October 4, was caused by gravel at 2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway, Atlanta, impacting a tributary of Rottenwood Creek. Both incidents involved sewage discharge from manholes, with crews using jet machines to clear blockages and clean the areas. For details, contact the Water System’s Maintenance Division.

STORY 3:  KSU Students Protest for Palestine One Year into War

On the anniversary of Hamas' attack on Israel, Kennesaw State University students protested for Palestinian support, urging a Gaza ceasefire. The peaceful protest, joined by the Party for Socialism and Liberation, called for divestment from Israeli entities and an end to Middle East conflicts. KSU's Hillel group observed the day with a moment of silence and distributed pins for hostages' return. Concerns about anti-Israel rhetoric were noted by Jewish students. The protest highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with over 41,000 Palestinians reported killed. Campus officials confirmed all groups had permission to protest.

STORY 4:  Marietta High School Class of 1974 Hosts 50th Reunion

The Marietta High School Class of 1974 celebrated its 50-year reunion at the Marietta Country Club with over 200 attendees, the largest turnout yet. The event's success was largely due to Ralph Fowler's extensive efforts in locating classmates. The reunion was free for many, thanks to donations, ensuring everyone could attend. Attendees also enjoyed a homecoming football game. Betsy Maloney Miller emphasized the importance of staying connected, especially after losing 70 classmates. A memorial book was displayed, honoring those who passed. Miller hopes to hold reunions more frequently in the future.

STORY 5:  Kennesaw Man Accused of Child Molestation at Bus Stop

Julian Albert Wright, 26, from Kennesaw, was arrested for allegedly performing a sex act in front of a child under 16 while they were walking to a bus stop on Chastain Meadows Parkway in Marietta on September 10. He faces charges of loitering, prowling, child molestation, and public indecency. Wright was arrested the same day at 6:30 p.m. and is currently held in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond.
