STORY 1: Police Close Part of Powers Ferry Road to Investigate Wreck
In Marietta, Cobb police closed a section of Powers Ferry Road near the Augusta Commons apartment complex on Wednesday evening to investigate a car wreck that left a vehicle in a ditch. Officers at the scene labeled it a crime scene but provided no further details. Officer S.A. Barner, the Cobb Police Department spokesperson, stated that the STEP unit is investigating the serious collision and promised a press release with more information as it becomes available. Stay tuned for updates.
STORY 2: Challenger Takes Fundraising Lead over Superior Court Clerk
In the Cobb County Superior Clerk race, Republican Deborah Dance has overtaken Democratic incumbent Connie Taylor in fundraising. Initially trailing, Dance's donations surged to over $51,000 since July, while Taylor's remained stagnant at $21,175. Taylor's campaign has faced scrutiny due to controversies, including a judicial emergency in her office and allegations of mishandling passport fees. Dance's support includes significant contributions from local law firms and judges. Despite Taylor's initial lead, her performance has drawn criticism from both parties, with some Democrats endorsing Dance for her administrative capabilities. The election is set for next week.
STORY 3: East Cobb, Acworth Voters Receive Incorrect Election Mailers
Cobb County voters in two precincts received mailers with incorrect voting locations. Affected areas include Acworth 1C and Roswell 02. Acworth 1C voters should go to the North Cobb Senior Center, while Roswell 02 voters should head to Mt. Zion Methodist Church. Voters must use their assigned polling place on Election Day, but can vote at any location during early voting, which ends Friday. Cobb Elections Director Tate Fall stated the error is being corrected and urged voters to verify their polling place online. Poll workers will assist voters at incorrect locations on November 5.

STORY 4: Testing Cobb County's Uber-like Transit Program
Cobb County voters will soon decide on a proposed 1% sales tax increase to fund public transportation, including a countywide microtransit system. CobbLinc launched a pilot microtransit program in south Cobb, offering on-demand, affordable rides similar to Uber but subsidized. The pilot aims to provide transit access to less dense areas, with $2 billion of the $11 billion transit tax allocated for microtransit. The service, CobbLinc Go, is praised for its convenience and low cost, but questions remain about its long-term feasibility and integration with other transit options. The tax also includes plans for rapid bus routes and new transit centers.
STORY 5: Cupid Discusses Nondiscrimination Ordinance at LGBT Forum
Cobb Chairwoman Lisa Cupid discussed potential policy changes, including a countywide nondiscrimination ordinance, at an LGBTQ+ forum. Building on a previous meeting, Cupid suggested initiatives like recognizing Pride Month and increasing LGBTQ+ representation in board appointments. Community members were encouraged to engage with commissioners and support inclusive policies. The forum highlighted Cobb's past anti-LGBTQ+ stance and the need for local nondiscrimination laws, as federal protections are limited. Cupid acknowledged challenges in policy implementation and public support but emphasized the importance of pursuing inclusivity. The forum also addressed the potential impact of upcoming elections on these initiatives.
