STORY 1:  Mountain View Opens New Community-Sponsored Sensory Room

Mountain View Elementary School has introduced a new sensory room, thanks to contributions from former PTA president Inez Finch and Piedmont Church. The sensory room, the 39th installed by Piedmont Church in Cobb County, features three distinct areas: one for energizing students, one for deep pressure stimulation, and one for relaxing. Each area includes visual choice boards to help students select activities suited to their sensory needs. Teachers are already noting positive impacts, as the room helps students regulate their sensory input, enhancing their focus and learning readiness.

STORY 2:     Coca-Cola to Have 'Seat at the Table' in A.I. Innovations

At the Cobb Chamber’s monthly luncheon, Coca-Cola President John Murphy highlighted the company’s new five-year partnership with Microsoft, which involves a $1.1 billion investment in AI and Microsoft Cloud technologies. Murphy discussed how Coca-Cola plans to use AI tools like Azure OpenAI Service and Microsoft 365 Copilot to boost productivity in areas from marketing to manufacturing. He emphasized the importance of staying ahead in technological advancements, noting the significant impact of AI on content creation and operational efficiency. Attendees expressed optimism about AI's potential to enhance workplace productivity and innovation.

STORY 3:  Locals Among Stamps Scholars Class of 2024

Fourteen freshmen at the University of Mississippi have been honored as Stamps Scholars, receiving full scholarships and leadership development opportunities. Among the recipients are Marietta students Hannah Levy and Josephine McCarey, both majoring in International Studies. The Stamps Scholars program recognizes academic excellence, leadership, and character, offering a $12,000 stipend for enrichment activities like study abroad and conferences. The scholarship was established in 2006 by Georgia native Roe Stamps and his late wife, Penny. For more details, visit stampsscholars.org.

STORY 4:  Shouts of 'Heil Hitler!' Shut Down Cobb Elections Meeting

At a Cobb County Elections Board meeting in Marietta, proceedings were halted after an audience member shouted “Heil Hitler” twice. Board member Jennifer Mosbacher, a Jewish woman, strongly condemned the hate speech, referring to the historical context of Leo Frank's lynching. The outburst followed a public comment from Hugh Norris, who criticized Mosbacher for not standing during the Pledge of Allegiance, suggesting she might be a Communist. The board voted to adjourn after failing to identify the individual responsible for the outburst. Board Chair Tori Silas and Mosbacher emphasized that hate speech would not be tolerated, while some members expressed concerns about handling the disruptive situation. The board plans to address agenda items at a future meeting.

STORY 5:  Cobb Schools Foundation and Papa Johns Partnership

The Cobb Schools Foundation has teamed up with Papa John's to support students through the Family Stabilization Fund. For the week of Sept. 9-15, 20% of all pizza sales will go to local schools, with schools competing for a $200 donation or 10 pizzas based on sales. Last year’s fundraiser raised over $7,000 for students in need. Use specific school promo codes to track donations or the code "COBBFS" to support the district as a whole. Papa John's also offers educational opportunities through their Dough and Degrees program. For more details, visit www.cobbschoolsfoundation.org.

Nobach was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center and is currently held without bond.

STORY 7:    Marietta Man Accused of Using a Hidden Bathroom Camera

Francis Leroy Muchanic, 53, of Marietta, was arrested on August 26 for eavesdropping-surveillance after allegedly using a hidden camera to record two women in a private bathroom without their consent.
