STORY 1: Gipson Paces Kell's Offense in Classic

In the Corky Kell-Dave Hunter Classic, Kell High School started the 2024 football season with a 29-15 win over North Atlanta despite facing 11 penalties and turnovers. Kell's strong ground game, led by Moonie Gipson with 173 yards and two touchdowns, and Donte Grant with 91 yards, powered the team. Quarterback Keleb Narcisse, in his first start, threw for 147 yards and two touchdowns. After a brief tie in the second half, Kell pulled away with additional touchdowns from Gipson and Narcisse.

STORY 2:  'A Long Time Coming': City Completes $12 Million Powder Springs Street Makeover

After nearly three years and $12 million, Marietta has completed its Powder Springs Street makeover. The project, funded by sales tax referendums from 2011 and 2016, includes new sidewalks, medians, traffic signals, and improved pedestrian trails. The upgrades are designed to enhance traffic flow, reduce travel time, and improve safety. Despite delays due to utility issues and supply chain problems, the project is now finished with additional features like decorative lighting and landscaped medians. Marietta officials hope the improvements will attract new businesses and invigorate the area.

STORY 3: Cobb Elections Board to Charge for Voter Challenges

The Cobb Elections Board has voted to implement fees for those challenging voter registrations, a move approved by a 4-1 vote. The new policy requires challengers to pay to cover costs like notifying voters, mirroring court procedures. This decision follows a recent case where thousands of voter challenges filed by a Cobb resident were dismissed, costing taxpayers approximately $1,600. The board's action aims to address concerns about mass challenges that have burdened election staff. The policy, influenced by recent legislation making voter challenges easier, has sparked debate, with critics arguing it infringes on voting rights and supporters seeing it as a necessary measure for election integrity.

The event will feature food, live music, and celebrate the foundation’s decade-long efforts to combat addiction and support recovery. Since its inception in 2014, the foundation has worked to de-stigmatize drug addiction and provide vital resources for recovery. Last year’s auction raised over $37,000.
