കാറ്റാടിക്കാടിന്റെ ഉള്ളിൽ മുളങ്കൂട്ടങ്ങളും പുൽമേടുകളും നിറഞ്ഞ ഭാഗത്തായിരുന്നു തമ്പു എന്ന ആനക്കുട്ടി അവന്റെ അമ്മ ആനയ്ക്കും കാട്ടാനക്കൂട്ടത്തിനും ഒപ്പം താമസിച്ചിരുന്നത്.വലിയ ചെവികളും, തുമ്പിക്കൈയും ഉണ്ടക്കണ്ണുമൊക്കെയുള്ള തമ്പു ആ കാട്ടിലെ ഏറ്റവും വികൃതിയായ കുട്ടിയാനയായിരുന്നു. ഇപ്പോഴും അവന്റെ കണ്ണിൽ ഒരു കുസൃതി ഒളിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നുണ്ടാകും.

 

Thambu, a baby elephant, lived with his mother and the wild elephant herd in a part of the forest that was filled with bamboo groves and meadows. Thambu, with his big ears, trunk, and round eyes, was the naughtiest baby elephant in that forest.
