MAESTRO ON THE MIC….

Check out Maestro On The Mic every Saturday between 9.00 a.m. and 11.00 a.m.

Today we focussed on  playing a variety of good, mostly Australian, music. A mix of new, old and somewhere in the middle.

We had interviews with musicians Jen Mize about the new singles released by The Rough ‘n’ Tumble followed by an interview with Freo about new releases from Mast Gully Fellers focussing on Ned Kelly.

What we did today:

 Saturday 2 May, 2026

  1. Love on the radio – Skyhooks (from the album Ego)
  2. Living in a child’s dream – Jim Keays (Resonator)
  3. All night long – Kerri Simpson (Sun Gonna Shine) and she is appearing on Saturday 9 May at the Paris Cat from 6.30 p.m.
  4. 70% cocoa – The Ska Vendors (Good Love Bad)
  5. Love in vain – Lloyd Spiegel (Double Live Set)
  6. One week – Peel River Ramblers
  7. Remember – Peppercreek Revival (Its All Been Said)
  8. You don’t have to be in the army to fight in the war – Mungo Jerry (The Best Of)

We interviewed Jen Mize who found true love in Australia and a life of touring and working on cruise ships.  And of course the tracks released recently as a teaser for TILT  the new album by Jen Mize and the Rough ‘N’ Tumble.  We hope to speak to her again in a bit more detail when the album is released in a few months time.

9. Double talk – Jen Mize and The Rough ‘n’ Tumble (Tilt)

10. Greater good – Jen Mize and The Rough ‘n’ Tumble (Tilt)

11. True lovers – Ruby Hunter

Freo from Mast Gully Fellers  came into the studio and talked to us  about the new singles the band is in the process of releasing. The first is Poor Ned which is an oldie but goldie giving the perspective of Ned Kelly from his point of view.  Then No Escaping which is told from the perspective of the family of the police murdered by Ned Kelly and his gang at Stringybark Creek.   More exciting news is a new album is on the way and we can’t wait for it.

12. Poor Ned – Mast Gully Fellers

13. No Escaping – Mast Gully Fellers

14. Dig boys dig – Mast Gully Fellers (The Great Divide)

15. Morning music – MUKI (Trampoline)

16. Ship of fools – Mic Conways National Junk Band (Diagonally Parked In A Parallel Universe)

17. Abwoon d’ Bashmaya – Kavisha Mazzella (There Is A Field)

18. The wind cries Mary – Joe Dolce (The Wind Cries Mary)

Thank you to those listeners who text, emailed  or rang in during the show. We got a mix of all three today. Its nice to know you are listening!

Next week (Saturday 9 May) we speak to Karin Keays who was married to Jim  (of Masters Apprentices fame) about her book ITS BECAUSE I LOVE YOU.  There is more to  this book than the title suggests.
