Sun Prairie native Skitz Kraven is bringing the Mind of a Killer Tour home to the Madison area with a stop at the Majestic Theatre on Friday, September 11, and he stopped by 93.1 JAMZ to talk with DJ Fusion about the tour, his connection with fans, his music and what people can expect when he takes the stage.

The Madison show comes as Skitz is already several dates into a tour that will take him to more than 20 cities across the country. But playing the Majestic carries a little extra meaning for an artist who grew up in the area.

“I grew up staring at that marquee walking by it,” Skitz said during the interview.

Now, his name is on it.

From the High Noon Saloon to the Majestic Theatre

Skitz Kraven’s return to Madison follows his previous sold out performance at the High Noon Saloon. This time, he’s stepping into the larger Majestic Theatre, with early ticket sales giving him reason to be optimistic about another strong hometown crowd.

For Skitz, however, the Mind of a Killer Tour isn’t designed to simply be a concert.

He described the roughly 90 minute performance as something closer to a “therapy session,” moving the audience through different emotions over the course of the show.

“There’s a lot of highs and there’s a lot of lows,” he explained. “It’s like a rollercoaster throughout the hour and a half that I’m on stage.”

The set combines deeply emotional, mental health focused records with high energy songs built to get the crowd moving.

“People are going to cry. People are going to laugh. It’s just a true performance.”

And Skitz has a simple measurement for whether he’s done his job.

“If you’re not sweating by the end of this show when you’re walking out, I didn’t do my job.”

Music That Became Therapy

Mental health has become an important part of both Skitz Kraven’s music and his relationship with his audience.

What originally began as a personal creative outlet has grown into something much bigger.

“It was therapy for me, and now it’s therapy for other people. Full circle.”

That connection extends beyond the records themselves. Skitz talked about intentionally remaining accessible to the people supporting his music, remembering what it felt like when he was a young fan reaching out to artists he admired and never receiving a response.

“If I open your message, I respond to it because I know what it’s like to be that kid that reached out to his favorite artists and got ghosted.”

Today, he sees himself as a voice for people who may not always feel heard and wants his audience to have a space where they can connect without judgment.

“I’m now a voice for a lot of people that are not heard, and I can’t stop. I just got to put on the gas.”

Skitz Kraven Continues to Push Horrorcore Forward

Skitz Kraven has developed a distinct lane through horrorcore, combining a hip hop foundation with darker imagery, storytelling and cinematic visuals.

Interestingly, he didn’t originally set out to make music that fit into the genre. Fans began applying the horrorcore label to what he was already creating.

“I was just making what I call a Skitz Kraven movie,” he explained.

Since then, he has embraced the niche while putting his own spin on it and introducing its horror influenced elements to a wider audience, including listeners discovering his work through platforms like TikTok.

The cinematic side of his music isn't accidental either.

Skitz directs his own music videos and writes treatments for many of them, working with a creative team to bring his ideas to life. Eventually, he hopes to take that experience beyond music videos and further into filmmaking.

“I want to focus on film, and I have a lot of stories I want to tell and a lot of stories I want to write.”

For now, the videos serve as a preview of where that creative direction could eventually take him.

New Single “Life Without Color” Tackles Depression

During his visit to 93.1 JAMZ, Skitz also introduced his new single, “Life Without Color,” one of the most personal and emotional songs he has released.

The record was written during what he described as a deep period of depression, and revisiting it can still bring back difficult memories.

At the same time, he says listeners have been connecting strongly with the song.

“It’s helping a lot of people right now. People are really resonating with it.”

He hopes “Life Without Color” can reach people dealing with depression themselves as well as friends and family members trying to understand what someone close to them may be experiencing.

Supporting Local Artists Along the Way

Even as the Mind of a Killer Tour travels across the country, Skitz has made it a priority to create opportunities for artists in each market.

Rather than filling every opening slot with the same touring acts, he encourages promoters to give local performers a chance to get in front of their hometown audience.

It comes from remembering his own experience as an emerging artist trying to earn opportunities to perform.

“I want to give local talent opportunities to perform in front of their hometown.”

Following Madison, the tour heads to Minneapolis before continuing through cities including Iowa City, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Indianapolis, Nashville, Orlando and Dallas, among other stops.

“It’ll probably get me choked up a little bit when I see it.”
