He was the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 2013 to 2016. From 2003 to 2006, he was chief economist of the International Monetary Fund. He is the author of several best-selling books, including Fault lines: How Hidden Fractures Still Threaten the World Economy and The Third Pillar: How Markets and the State Hold the Community Behind.
