By Newsbreak Producer Tashlan Naidoo - Teachers Union (NAPTOSA) says they are planning a multi-stakeholder meeting in a bid to address the announcement that National Treasury is going to cut the Education department's budget. Government has agreed to a 7.5% wage increase for teachers and other public servants for 2023/2024, but did not increase provincial budgets accordingly. Last month, the Western Cape Education Department announced that it will cut around 2,400 teaching jobs in the province due to a R3.8 billion budget shortfall. Executive Director of NAPTOSA, Basil Manuel says this a sad time for the sector with far reaching ramifications...
