By Newsbreak Producer Tashlan Naidoo - Teacher Union, NAPTOSA in KwaZulu-Natal says engagements are ongoing with the Minister of education, Siviwe Gwarube in finding alternatives to the budget cuts announced by National treasury for the department. Government has agreed to a 7.5% wage increase for teachers and other public servants for 2023/2024, but did not increase provincial budgets accordingly. NAPTOSA KZN CEO, Thirona Moodley says the shortfall in budget on paper equates to around 7-thousand jobs for the province - but there has been no directive that jobs will be cut.
