Known for 2018's Deep End and 2020's Vivaldi's spring in the time of COVID-19, the director is famed for using the city of Durban as his visual playground. The Cane Cutter follows this same formula - featuring a youthful cast, telling a story about Indians as a tribe in South Africa - all while paying tribute to the indentured labourers of the past.
