by Newsbreak Producer, Tashlan Naidoo - In commemoration of International Safe Abortion Day (ISAD) tomorrow, local reproductive and sexual health groups together with feminist movements and social justice organisations will march through the streets of Johannesburg in an effort to provide the public with information on safe and legal abortion facilities. According to a 2023 study by Reproductive Health organisation, IBIS* - 22% of participants from Gauteng had experienced an unplanned pregnancy, and were more aware of ways to end a pregnancy using unsafe abortion methods, as opposed to safe abortion methods. Organisers says a petition will also be launched tomorrow, demanding that public representatives develop stronger regulations against the advertisement of illegal and unsafe abortions.
