Hundreds of foreign nationals face uncertainty in Durban- as tensions run high in local communities. They say they are being harassed for not being South African nationals. This has resulted in many of them fleeing their settlements, seeking protection. Tensions erupted this March as various groups around KwaZulu-natal and Gauteng called for undocumented foreigners to leave South Africa. But many claim they are in the country legally- but still face persecution.
Meanwhile the Department of Home Affairs confirming that 455 out of 457 people processed at the Durban Refugee Reception Centre on Moore Road are legally documented refugees and asylum seekers.
