This is due to the high rate of young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET). In fact national statistics suggest that 1 in 3 young South Africans are NEET. They claim that calling them resilient enables a culture where they have to soldier on despite the societal problems that exist.  Professor Linda Theron is from the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Pretoria. She says the mental health of young people is dependent on how much society supports them...

This is according to a security expert who says recent major seizures has exposed the scale and sophistication of these networks. Just this week, police arrested five people at a multi-million-rand drug laboratory on a farm in Krugersdorp, west of Johannesburg while a similar Mandrax lab was discovered in Hartbeespoort Dam in the North West. Director of the Security Initiative for Africa (SIA) and consultant at the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), Willem Els warn that the growing local capacity to store and manufacture drugs is raising fresh concerns about organised crime and the infiltration of state institutions...

by Newsbreak Executive Producer Salma Patel  - A 74 year old resident from Parkgate at Verulam, north of Durban claims that four Tokoloshes are tormenting her and her son at their home. A Tokoloshe is a dwarf-like, hairy spirit or goblin in Nguni mythology. The woman then contacted a private security company for assistance after she claimed that the tokoloshes had set fire to a mattress in her home. She then pointed out handprints, footprints and scratches on the walls of her house attributing this to the tokoloshes. This is how the woman explained what happened to the responding officers. Her identity is being withheld due to the sensitivity of the case....
