By Newsbreak Producer Hoosen Ebrahim - KwaZulu-Natal's conservation authorities have warned that elephant numbers in several provincial game reserves have exceeded the ecological carrying capacity of the land. Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife says more than 1,000 elephants need to be relocated to prevent further damage to biodiversity and sensitive habitats. The conservation agency says relocation remains its preferred option but has cautioned that culling could become unavoidable if other solutions cannot be implemented. Ecologists say the growing elephant population is placing increasing pressure on vegetation, water resources and other wildlife. Ecological advice Manager at KZN Ezemvelo wildlife, Ian Rushworth, says the priority is to protect the long-term health of the province's ecosystems...

By Newsbreak Producer Tracy Valaydham - Humanitarian aid organisation, the Gift of the Givers Foundation says more than 80 undocumented Malawian migrants remain at the decommissioned repatriation centre at the old Durban Drive-In site. The foundation says the women and children have been accommodated at a local shelter, while the men remain at the site awaiting transport to the Musina Repatriation Centre in Limpopo for processing and repatriation. Over the weekend, Gift of the Givers assisted over 107 undocumented migrants with transport to Musina, where they are being processed by immigration authorities. Many of those still at the Drive-in site were allegedly displaced by recent xenophobic attacks in Durban and Pietermaritzburg and continue to depend on humanitarian assistance. Gift of the Givers is providing blankets, food and other essential relief. Gift of the Givers spokesperson Bilall Jeewa...
