The Msunduzi Municipality says some services at Pietermaritzburg's Mountain Rise crematorium - which has been experiencing challenges for years - have now resumed. Families in and around the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands were forced to travel to Durban and other places to cremate their loved ones because the crematorium was not functioning. Many residents and civil right groups complained that this was adding an unnecessary financial and emotional burden to bereaved families.
