By Newsbreak Producer Shanell Daniel - The Impilo Project recently facilitated a health screening day at Marconi Beam Primary School in Joe Slovo, an informal settlement in Cape Town. The initiative provided a first look at the cutting-edge future of Tuberculosis (TB) detection. Through collaborations with various partners, patients received medical screenings, including an AI-powered TB screening provided in partnership with med-tech company, AI Diagnostics. According to research, TB screening using an X-Ray machine has not always been feasible or logistical, despite around fifty-thousand South Africans losing their lives to TB each year.
