Joyi previously held the position of CFO at the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), but resigned following allegations of financial misconduct. The National Teacher Union (Natu) expressed shock over Joyi's appointment and questioned the political will behind the decision while the National Professional Teachers' Organisation of South Africa (NAPTOSA) is calling for Joyi to respond to the allegations leveled against her.
