The businessman accused in the Tembisa Hospital fraud case, Stefan Joel Govindraju, has been granted 200-thousand rand bail by the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court. The 37-year-old was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport after returning from overseas. In his bail application, Govindraju argued that he was not a flight risk, citing his family, business and financial ties to South Africa. In September 2025, the SIU uncovered the existence and operations of a large procurement network at Tembisa Hospital, referred to as Syndicate X. This syndicate is linked to Govindraju. Evidence from the SIU investigation shows that Govindraju is the director of at least 75 entities, 73 of which were irregularly appointed at Tembisa Hospital. During the period under review, these entities were awarded 1 237 contracts through a purported three-quote procurement process that did not comply with applicable procurement prescripts. SABC reporter, Culvin Mabasa is on that story and joins us on the line for an update....
