Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife in KwaZulu-Natal has issued an urgent warning to campers after two serious hyena attacks at Cape Vidal in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park near St Lucia. In the most recent incident over the weekend, a young camper was severely mauled by two hyenas that entered his tent while he was sleeping. He sustained deep injuries to his face and hand and is currently recovering after undergoing reconstructive surgery. This follows a similar attack just three weeks ago at the same campsite.
