By Newsbreak Producer Matthew Veeran - South Africa's solar energy sector has experienced significant growth over the last few years, but the country is still missing out on vital economic benefits by continuing to rely on imported high-value components like solar panels and lithium batteries. In response to this, the South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA) is urging government to implement targeted incentives and a cautious approach to import tariffs, in order to foster a more competitive local manufacturing industry. CEO Dr. Rethabile Melamu says by focusing on providing long-term policy certainty, South Africa can transform its energy transition into an opportunity to create jobs and become a green manufacturing hub for the rest of the continent...
