Marking World Bee Day this week, Professors Abdullahi Yusuf and Christian Pirk highlighted that these insects provide billions of Rands in free ecological labour, noting that a collapse in their populations would cause crop yields to plummet and food prices to spike. To bridge the gap between research and action, the University of Pretoria has launched a targeted school outreach initiative across Gauteng to foster ecological literacy and long-term behavioural changes.
