Under Iran's constitution, the Supreme Leader holds ultimate authority over major state affairs and serves as the supreme commander of the country's armed forces. Prior to this election, U.S. President, Donald Trump threatened that the appointment of Iran's next supreme leader will need U.S. approval or "he's not going to last long."
