Parliament's Impeachment committee has resolved to obtain legal advice after it received a letter from President Cyril Ramaphosa, wherein he raised reservations about the evidence leader the committee has decided on. In its last meeting the committee resolved to recommend advocate Thandazani Madonsela SC to Speaker Thoko Didiza for appointment. In a letter Ramaphosa raises his reservations in terms of two instances of conflict of interest. He says he removed Madonsela as appointee to the Judicial Service Commission shortly after the 2022 interviews for the appointment of the Chief Justice and therefore, there is a reasonable apprehension that Madonsela may harbour a sense of grievance towards him.
