By Newsbreak Producer Tashlan Naidoo - Gender Based Violence (GBV) activists says while more can be done to curb the scourge plaguing communities, we must appreciate the strides that have been made over the years. This comes as South Africa commemorates Women's month this August. Saturday the 9th of August will mark 69 years since the 1956 march by 20-thousand women to the Union Buildings to challenge inequality and oppression on the basis of race and gender. A Human Sciences Research Council report from 2024 shows that one in three women in the country has faced physical intimate partner violence at some point in their lives. Director of the Non-profit Organisation, the Hope Foundation, Vanessa Samuel Chetty says among other things, there needs to be more done in terms of training for those who are the first point of contact for a GBV survivor...
