A nine-year-old boy is fighting for his life after falling from the second floor of an apartment block at Davenport in Durban. Safety advocates say incidents involving children falling from balconies and windows remain a recurring concern and highlight the need for stricter building safety controls and greater awareness. Parents and caregivers are also being reminded never to leave young children unsupervised near open windows or balconies. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the latest incident. ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson was on the scene; he explains the renewed calls for improved safety measures to prevent similar tragedies.
