The two are accused of shooting a 23-year-old gardener at the Mugabe residency in Hyde Park, Johannesburg in February. The case has been transferred to the regional court for plea negotiation. The pair appeared at the Alexandra Magistrate Court this morning, on charges of attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, possession of a firearm and contravening the Immigration Act. This morning, residents from the uMgudulu informal settlement blocked the M19 near Reservoir Hills, protesting over the ongoing water supply problems and frequent pipe bursts. This led to the closure of the busy route linking Durban to Pinetown, bringing traffic to a standstill, as community members lit fires and blockaded the road with debris. Ward 23 councillor Alicia Kissoon says months of low pressure and repeated pipe bursts have fueled residents' frustration....

Beginning tomorrow in Umhlanga, north of Durban - the gathering will bring together educators, policymakers and Early Childhood Development practitioners. About 200 delegates are expected to attend under the UNESCO theme: "valuing teachers' voices: towards a new social contract for education". Organisers say the discussions will help inform evidence-based interventions to strengthen teaching practice across the country. SACE Spokesperson Risuna Nkuna explains...
