Former Acting National Police Commissioner Khomotso Phahlane, has acknowledged that political interference in the South African Police Service has been prevalent for a long time.  Phahlane says it began after the ANC Conference held in Polokwane in 2007. He was testifying before the Ad Hoc Committee investigating wide-ranging allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption and political interference in the justice system. The allegations were made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi during a media briefing last year. Abongwe Kobokana reports...

Authorities have once again called on citizens to stop crossing overflowing rivers and bridges as heavy rainfall continues to pour in Limpopo and Mpumalanga. Two people drowned in Msholozi Village near Mbombela in Mpumalanga. The 45-year-old Esther Mathenjwa, was swept away after attempting to cross an overflowing bridge on Wednesday night. And on Tuesday, a two-year-old toddler drowned in the same area . Mthobisi Mkhaliphi reports...
