Descendants of Indian Indentured Labourers converged on the Durban coastline to offer traditional marigold flowers to their ancestors, marking 164 years since the arrival of Indians in South Africa. Led by the 1860 Heritage Centre in Durban- the event was a time of reflection for South African Indians. KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli, Ethekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba and Provincial MEC for Arts and Culture Mntomuhle Khawula addressed the gathering- paying homage to the contributions made by indentured Indians to South Africa.

Indian South African's have lamented the slow pace in bringing the Ethekwini Council member who made a racial slur to book. The incident took place on the 6th of November at the ICC in Durban- where an un-identified Council member said "Go back to Bombay" to DA Executive Councillor Yogis Govender. The slur was made during a debate on a monument honouring the 1860 Indentured Indians. EThekwini Municipality's Speaker of Council, Councillor Thabani Nyawose, has strongly condemned a racist remark and is investigating. By Newsbreak Producer, Taliesha Naidoo - KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Thami Ntuli has called on health practitioners to conduct unannounced inspections of spaza shops across the province. He made the announcement at a meeting currently underway in Durban, which includes Mayors from all 54 Municipalities in the province. The meeting comes in the wake of the increase in food borne illnesses affecting people especially school pupils over the past few months. Ntuli says they have found some shop owners who are not following proper hygiene practices as well as changing expiry dates on food packaging. SABC reporter, Fanele Mhlongo is at the meeting and brings us an update...
