Descendants of Indian Indentured Labourers converged on the Durban coastline to offer traditional marigold flowers to their ancestors, marking 164 years since the arrival of Indians in South Africa. Led by the 1860 Heritage Centre in Durban- the event was a time of reflection for South African Indians. KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli, Ethekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba and Provincial MEC for Arts and Culture Mntomuhle Khawula addressed the gathering- paying homage to the contributions made by indentured Indians to South Africa.

Beginning tomorrow in Umhlanga, north of Durban - the gathering will bring together educators, policymakers and Early Childhood Development practitioners. About 200 delegates are expected to attend under the UNESCO theme: "valuing teachers' voices: towards a new social contract for education". The shelter will host an Open Day and Quiz Night fundraiser this Saturday to support the care of vulnerable animals. The event comes as the non-profit organisation faces more than fifty-three thousand rand in veterinary bills after vaccinating about 70 dozen dogs and taking in several litters of puppies. Chivona Nundlall - Operations Manager at the KZN Doghouse says the event will also give visitors the chance to meet rescue dogs that are up for adoption and learn more about the shelter's rehabilitation efforts...
