Descendants of Indian Indentured Labourers converged on the Durban coastline to offer traditional marigold flowers to their ancestors, marking 164 years since the arrival of Indians in South Africa. Led by the 1860 Heritage Centre in Durban- the event was a time of reflection for South African Indians. KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli, Ethekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba and Provincial MEC for Arts and Culture Mntomuhle Khawula addressed the gathering- paying homage to the contributions made by indentured Indians to South Africa.

The classes are being held in an effort to promote and preserve the Tamil language, culture and heritage in the community. It will be hosted once a week at the Seven Hills Primary School at Montford in Chatsworth, south of Durban. Roshnee Govinder, Secretary of the Tamil Advancement Society says they are committed to keeping the language alive and are hoping the community seizes the opportunity to learn one of the world's longest-surviving classical languages...

By Newsbreak Producer Tashlan Naidoo - The Road Freight Association says the latest fuel price hike coupled with the conflict in the middle east affecting oil trade routes could lead to higher prices being paid at the tills in South Africa. From today, both grades of petrol increased by 20-cent a litre, while the price of diesel increased between 62-cents and 65-cent a litre depending on the grade. The price of brent crude oil yesterday increased by about 3% to just over 80-dollars a barrel. CEO of the Association, Gavin Kelly is hopeful that the conflict will be resolved soon, in turn bringing about stability within the markets and local supply chain...
