Almost a week since President Cyril Ramaphosa let the nation know how allegations of corruption in the South African Police Service will be handled- and the shockwaves continue to be felt. KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi made a public statement claiming senior police officials are involved in corruption and infiltration at SAPS. Since then Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has been placed on a leave of absence and Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya has also been asked to take a leave of absence. This as a Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the allegations is set to begin. Meanwhile the latest South African Social Attitudes Survey by the Human Sciences Research Council’s (HSRC’s) showed that trust in the South African Police Service has declined significantly over the past two decades- hitting an all time low. Joining us to discuss this is political expert Dr. Levy Ndou and crime-fighting activists Imtiaz Syed and Umesh Singh.
