Thirty nine teachers have been found guilty of sexual offences perpetrated against pupils countrywide. This is according to the data assessed by the Education Labour Relations Council. It marks an increase in the number of sexual offence cases against teachers- from 82 cases referred in 2023/2024 to 111 in 2024/2025. We spoke to the Council's Bernice Loxton alongside Anisha Yagambaram from Child Welfare Chatsworth and Elijah Mhlanga, Dept. of Basic Education.
