INTRO : Deputy President, Paul Mashatile, has called for calm following widespread protests over the Constitutional Court's ruling on asylum seekers. The apex court said the South African government cannot turn away asylum seekers without following due process even if they entered the country illegally. Violent protests broke out in the Durban CBD and Soweto yesterday (Thursday 8 October) which saw several buildings and cars torched. Protests also spread to the Joburg CBD on Friday, with the country's law enforcement agencies now on high alert. Mashatile was speaking on the side-lines of the ANC election campaign in Ivory Park east of Johannesburg. Our Politics Reporter Ntebo Mokobo was there and filed this report by Wisani Manganyi....
