Living Strong: God’s Road to Happiness

Podcast Episode: PGM0538 (October 18, 2026)

Presented by: Sun City West Christian Church (Sun City West Christian Church Website)

Episode Description

In a world where 97% of people state that happiness is their primary pursuit, we often trap ourselves in an "I'll be happy if..." mindset—tying our joy to money, health, or external success. In this episode of Living Strong, we unpack Psalm 1 to discover the true, foundational road to lasting happiness. Moving past fleeting cultural pursuits, we explore how true joy is found not in chasing the wind, but in establishing godly boundaries, delighting in Scripture, and staying deeply rooted in relationship with God.

Key Takeaways

The "If" Trap: Lasting happiness cannot be found on conditional "Easy Streets" or external achievements. True joy begins when we stop chasing temporary circumstances and anchor our lives in God.

Knowing What to Say "No" To (Psalm 1:1): A happy and righteous life requires establishing godly boundaries by avoiding the advice of the wicked, the paths of sinners, and the company of mockers. Sin is a gradual progression that begins with listening, leads to standing around, and ends in full compromise.

Delighting in God’s Word (Psalm 1:2): Instead of a mindless emptying of the mind, biblical meditation (hagah) means filling our minds with God's truth—pondering, murmuring, and savoring His instructions day and night.

Bearing Fruit Through Deep Roots (Psalm 1:3): Just as a tree planted by streams of water remains resilient through drought and heat, believers whose spiritual roots run deep into God will endure external hardships and produce seasonal, life-giving fruit.

Bible Passages Referenced & Links

Psalm 1:1-6 – The two roads: contrasting the path of the righteous with the path of the wicked.

Ecclesiastes 12:13 – Solomon’s final conclusion on life's true meaning: respect and obey God.

1 Corinthians 15:33 – The warning that bad company corrupts good character.

Proverbs 4:14-15 – Instruction to turn away from the path of the wicked and keep moving.

1 Corinthians 6:11 – Transformation and cleansing found through Jesus.

Psalm 119:97 – David’s deep love for God's instructions.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 – The blessing of trusting in the Lord, compared to a tree planted by water.

John 15:4-5 – Jesus as the vine and believers as the branches; remaining in Him to bear fruit.

Luke 13:6-9 – The parable of the fruitless fig tree.

Proverbs 11:24 – The principle of generous living and refreshing others.

God How Can I Be Happy

Description: Have you ever wondered why you are on this planet or if your life truly holds lasting purpose? In this episode of Living Strong, brought to you by Sun City West Christian Church, we explore humanity's most foundational questions: Where did we come from, why are we here, and whose are we? While human history, literature, and modern culture often spiral into cynicism or despair, Scripture reveals that our true worth isn't defined by worldly success, wealth, or human opinion. We are intentionally created in the image of God to share an eternal relationship with our Heavenly Father. Tune in as we discuss what it means to bear God's image, examine His unique design for our lives, and see how all of creation points back to its Creator.

Key Takeaways

The Search for Human Purpose

Human purpose often seems to shift across life stages—from play at age 5 to remembering why we walked into the kitchen at age 80. While technology and directions can guide our steps, they cannot answer why we exist.

Human Pessimism vs. Divine Value

Thinkers like H.G. Wells, Sigmund Freud, Jonathan Swift, and Mark Twain grew increasingly cynical about humanity over time. While human history and societal trends highlight our weaknesses and flaws, God assigns intrinsic value and dignity to human life.

Made in the Image of God

Humans are not accidents or governed merely by biological instinct. We are created in God’s image to share a direct relationship with Him, setting humanity apart from the rest of creation and even angels.

The Character of God as Father

Earthly parents are limited by imperfection, ignorance, or inability. God's Fatherhood, however, is perfect and complete. While human parenting prepares children for independence, God’s parenting prepares His children for an eternal, loving dependence on Him.

Creation Points to the Creator

Nature and the universe continuously point toward an intelligent Creator, testifying to God's eternal power, beauty, and majesty without uttering a physical word.
