On goal 905 sounds good, feels good. You're live with Mike and Vanetta. Good morning to you. Shereen has sent you a message, Mike. Oh, OK. Shereen says, Mike and Vern, good almost weekend morning. I'm listening in to you guys, and you are great. Positive enough, Mike. Yes, that's what I'm looking for. Ah, Shereen, you just made all day. Thank you. Sean came up short this morning with his, uh, he is short.
I can say that he's our friend and we love him. OK, I'm kidding. Love you.
Alright, so it's 99 duos walk to a bar, bus and says, we don't have a kind here, and the duo say according to someone with no name here, we're here to fix a cabinet with the carpenters and carpenters, right, OK.
Malcolm says, hey, homie, how a get me a rude beer.
Or a club Zoda. I don't get it. I don't get it. Homer Simpson. I don't know what's the duo there, help us out, out. Text in. You says, holy guacamole, that's bad, man. Batman and Robin and by the way, RIP Kilmer. I cannot believe it. That's right, he was Batman. 5, you know.
I mean, just he was loved. He was loved. Tom Cruise's wingman is gone. I'm very upset. I'm so glad he was in the final, the other, you know, it was such a wonderful, wonderful moment that that scene was great. Yeah, yeah. All right, uh, 99 duos, welcome to a bar. Biden says we don't suffer a kind here, and the duo say according to Rio, you don't like our art, huh, Simon.
Gillan says, but aren't we your bread and butter?
Bread and butter, bread duo bread and butter, just, you know, general bread and butter. Oh yeah, bread and butter and drew down on it says, what's your problem, butch? Maybe we can do a sun dance for you first. Le Cohen says, oh sorry, we settled our bill a tad too late.
Wow, that's solid. James says, well, you know what, I'm a little bit country. I'm a little bit rock and roll. Uh, Michael Al says he's Scooby. I think Daphne picked the wrong do. Let's get out of this shaggy place. I love it. Oh God, everybody's so there's so many. Corey says.
That's not righteous, brother. Wait, hold on. I got one. Nice one, Corey, nice one. How about, uh, 99 duos walking to a bar, bartender says, we don't serve your kind here, and the duos say, uh, why did you kirk us out of this place? We're sparked.
Why did you kick us out? We're shocked. No, OK, Kirk and Spock. Sorry, sorry, not as bad as bad. But let's be positive. That was great, Mike. That was great. Thank you.
So check this out. You don't want to be the middle child. So if you are, just change the status now. OK, I'll tell my middle child. You are, yeah, I'm a middle child. And why don't you want to be the middle child? So a researcher found children born in the middle of the family are at higher risk than their older or younger siblings of not being as successful as an adult.
Uh, it's not about birth order. It's about the pecking order and the economic disparities that naturally occur based on where you land in that order. So, uh, middles are less likely to receive financial support for their education. Middles may do less well in school than their siblings. I did hor, yeah.
Yeah, my older sister was pretty bad in school too, but I think I might have been the worst. Younger sister was great. Um, the chance that middle borns will attend a private school drops by 25% with the birth of a third child. Now I went, I went to private school. Maybe you're a unique situation, and the chance that middles will be held back a year in school increases severalfold with the birth of the 3rd child. I was held back a year in school. OK, I think you're a prime example then.
Well, a lot of that, uh, is accurate to me, but not all of it. But it did take me a while to become properly successful. I wonder why it took a long time.
I think psychologically maybe the parents are like um saving up for the 3rd 1 when the 3rd 1 comes along, oh, you know, oh this is like probably my last child I'm going to have, so you pile on a bit more on that final child. First one gets to all the benefits of oh first child, one kind of middle one was the last child for a while, you know what I mean? So they had some of the perks, but then after that, when the 3rd 1 came along.
Yeah, you know, let us know, as a matter of fact, 961-71905, if you are a middle child, is this accurate or are you, uh, the next Elon Musk or what's that?
So are you, have you, did you get less financial support? Did you do less well in school than your siblings? Will you held back? And, and how are you doing now financially and everything? Are you, are you are you are you you're doing OK now? So I'm doing OK now, but as a child in schooling years and and whatnot, my career was just so.
up and down. I had success when I was young, but then it went away for so long. And then it started back up at 38 years old. I mean, in between, I was, you know, fixing toilets and digging ditches the effects of whatever these things were, I've been as a as a middle child or my, my choice of a dumb career path. Oh.
Stay, don't go. More hits are on the way on Mediacorp Gold 905. Sounds good, feels good. A very good start to your Thursday, April 3rd, and we were talking just now about how
Um, a bit of factual info that you gave was that the middle child usually does, doesn't do very well usually I mean it's not in every case, but as a, as a kid, is it, the middle child will grow up and not be as successful as the others and not do as well in school. Yeah.
I thought that the information was purely just about how it was as a kid, they grow into an adult, they will not be as successful. Well, we got someone who says, Bull. OK. Jasmine says, well, not agreeing with this research, my middle child is doing awesome in Korea and so successful. So it's good, it's good. Is it an outlier or I don't know because so for me it was, it wasn't straightforward, it was a struggle for me.
As a middle child. So there's, we have 2 now. Let's get any others come in. Uh, someone says, my view is 100% people think for gender first, not really giving us a help in terms of of of a middle child, but it says preferably a baby boy first and a baby girl for the second.
If it's a baby girl first, and the couple will hope for a baby boy subsequently. So I think what Marcus is saying is that if it's a boy second, they probably give it much more, but if the girls second, they might not. So maybe that's what affects gender that more Asia though? Because I don't think that, I don't think uh in the US the the whole boy thing is a thing, maybe in the 50s, the state has messaged in to say that middle child success is an outlier.
They kind of agree with the research. Yeah, we'll see, I don't know, it's interesting, right? It's just an interesting concept here. I'm not saying one or the other. I don't know. And I think this research then, even though it's an American story, if this is something that happens happens in Asia as well, I think the takeaway here is to look at your middle child and go give them the support if you think really take a look and examine.
Does this child have enough support, you know, to make sure that they're not don't forget the middle. Yeah, so yeah, maybe just a little analyzing today for the rest of the year, it's 7:46. Let's talk about health. It's Gold 905's health guide. All right, so this health guide is basically for me as well because I never warm up. I never warm up a sweater. What's a heat pack up and down. No, no, no, um, so what you should do is do some leg swings, you know, forward, side to side, circular leg swings, like look what the footballers do, but when they're warming up, that whole jumping the leg going to the right and left thing, doing that feel like we're gonna fall off, man.
Torso twists, just gentle rotations of the upper body, right, gentle, not too hard, uh, arm circles, we all know how to do that. High knees, lift your, you know, the high knee thing, uh, and butt kicks, bring your heels towards your glutes while jogging in place. So that's a good way to warm up if you want to do some, uh, lunges, you can do that too, you know, just a little some squats, a couple of that just to just warm up. Get the hip flexors and the joints moving.
For me, the way I want, when I go to the driving range and I'm just completely caught, I just start with very, I just start with chip shots, then move up, you know, but I should be warming up. I should be stretching, I should be. I saw this warm up from this one particular pro golfer, and she was warming up on these are her steps can prevent your injury, 34, she went on to about 20 and it's like a.
40 minute will warm up, you know, and I'm like dude, I'd be tight end. But it does like if you can warm up and you know, this is science we know now, you can play the sport that you want to play or play with your grandkids, you know, take care of your body. Just do this every day. Yeah, Kung fu moves, man. Yeah, yeah. Let's talk about health. It's gold 905's health guide.
Hey there, it's
The truth. Why do stars fall down from
You'll learn all that and more on Did You Know. You can't handle the truth, can you, can you?
Let's see. First of all, just to let you know, Toto is going to be in town 29th April at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention, Level B to E and F and get your tickets for Marina BaySands.com. And uh it is gonna be such a treat. It's going to speak to Joseph Williams in just a little bit, uh, lead vocalist of Toto, so make sure that you join us and keep it right here on 905.
Uh, in the meantime, did you know that there are, there's a group of wolves in British Columbia, known as sea wolves, and 90% of their food comes from the sea. Yeah, underwater. Uh, they have distinct DNA that sets them apart from interior wolves and are entirely dedicated to the sea. They swim several miles daily in search of food. Wow, OK, Seawolves, that's nice.
Uh, and by the way, here's something else, schizophrenic hallucinations are apparently shaped by culture. In the United States, the voices are harsher and more threatening. But in Africa and India, if you have schizophrenic hallucinations, they're actually more benign and playful. Well, that's nice. So it's shaped by culture, shaped by environment, the area I grew up with the media that's thrown at you.
So let's be positive. And now you know. And no.
Welcome to Live with Mike Burnett Eder and Pierre on Gold 905. Gold 905's fast 5 is at $900. The snowball is so big is on your face. Oh my gosh, could you win it? Plus we're gonna be interviewing. Yes, Mr. Joseph Williams from Toto. Stay with us. We're going live on Facebook as well. Come and join.
Right now and you are live with Mike and Vanetta, and we're not alone. We've got Mr. Joseph Williams from Toto. Welcome to the 5, Joseph.
Thank
you. Thanks for having
me.
Yeah, join us on Facebook.com/gold905, where you can see him live and, uh, join the conversation, ask questions maybe.
Uh, so, off air, we were just in the middle of a conversation. I cut you off to go on air and uh you were saying that doing the,
uh, composing work for
scores for films, things like this is, is very hard.
It can, and I was saying it can be, you know, it, it depends. I mean, if you have a, a close relationship with the filmmakers, producers, uh, for TV or film, it's, it's, it makes no difference. They, they, uh, the producers are producers, directors are directors, and, and, uh, in TV though, you do have to, you know, you deal with some, some notes and stuff from network occasionally, that kind of thing.
Uh, I was fortunate. I worked with some great people on some great shows, and I also worked, you know, had to work a little bit harder on others, you know, where, where, uh, where you're asked to either change things that, uh, you thought were finished or whatever, and, and the, it's deadline city, you know, it's, it's really about,
oh,
so does that, does that affect the creative process then?
Um, it, uh, only in that you just, once you get the muscle strong and you're doing it regularly, uh, you know, the, then you can connect to the creative process and, and know that you have this deadline that you have to do and
And, and both seem to work in, you know, in concert with each other, you know what I mean? It takes a, it takes a minute to get up to speed and to get your to get the muscles strong, but once you're, once you're like in the, in the thick of a season of a series, something like that, then, then it's, you're up and running.
And one more question on that, can you overthink a composition if you have too much time?
Absolutely. It's, it's usually in the sort of the development of what the music is, and I'm speak only for myself. I'm sure there are other composers listening out there that are going, he doesn't know what he's talking about, which is probably true to some degree. But for me that, you know, I would overthink things, especially at the beginning of the process of working on a particular show or, or a film, and, and generally, you know, in that, in those cases, the comments are just, you know, can you just simplify a little bit and then
Once you, once you sort of get that note, you, you can actually, you know, not work so hard.
Right? OK, sorry, I'm asking questions. No, no, go ahead. No, I'm just, I'm just so thrilled that, you know, they're coming to Singapore on 29th April and uh apparently know Total is getting a resurgence. People are actually in the age group of 35 and under even are enjoying Toto's music again. I mean, how does it feel? How does it feel having this resurgence with total music?
It's fantastic. I mean, I, I've been touring now with Luke and, and a, you know, a few changes in musicians, musicians along the way, but uh steadily now for 20, for 15 years, the last 15 years, we started up again.
And it's been a kind of a steady climb. It's strange. Uh, you know, we, we owe a lot to, to the rebirth of, of the song Africa in a few different, uh, iterations, you know, it showed up on the popular television show, it showed up, you know, in pieces with a rap artist and, you know, a few things like that sort of, sort of got us back in business, especially with the, with the younger crowd.
Uh, because it showed up in, uh, Stranger Things. It was the series that it showed up,
yeah,
yeah, so people, people seem to be interested. I also think that, that kids, you know, they always wanna, they grow up listening to what their parents listen to.
And the parents of kids who are teenagers now are right at that age, you know, so, so that back in the 80s, you know, their, their, uh their stuff was back in the 80s and early 90s, that,
that kind of thing because our 19 year old producer, we were just talking about this the other day, it was maybe 3 days ago. She's listening to what song was it?
And in the mood for dancing, I'm in the mood for dancing, and she, it was a new song because she heard it on, on, uh, social media, right? That's right. So,
you know, Christopher Cross, who's gonna be touring with us down there and he's, he's, he's amazing. I love um, he, uh, he ran into a situation where, uh, uh, one of his songs Sailing, which was a very popular tune, was covered by a younger artist.
And, and he was on the road, uh, I guess, appearing with that artist. And a fan came back and asked him, uh, uh, I didn't know you did her song.
Yeah, well, I mean that's exactly right. It's just like a Westlife. We had somebody, one of our interns, uh, thought, you know, that Westlife did Uptown.
That's right. I was like, how dare you, young man. Joseph, welcome to G 905 once again. Hello, and thanks for joining us on 905.
It's an honor to be here. I really appreciate it.
And we're looking to have you in concert here. Yeah, it's gonna
be
so
much fun.
Yeah, it's great. Can you, can you tell some of our listeners here which songs that they know and love from Toto that you were the lead vocalist on so they can really match the two because there've been so many members of Toto.
I, there have been. I mean, the original singer was Bobby Kimball, who was, who was, uh, who was heard, uh, on probably the biggest hits that everybody remembers. Although there were other lead singers on, on two of the most popular tunes, Africa, David Page sings the first part of it, and Bobby sings the chorus along with some other background singers. Rosanna was the same thing, only Steve Lucather was on the verses and, and then, you know, Bobby hit those choruses.
So, and then Hold the Line was pure Bobby. That, that, that's one song that was pure Bobby. So the, uh, there were, there were troubles back in the band, so they, they hired another lead singer, Fergie Fredrickson, who was on the album Isolation. They had some troubles with him, so he, he left and then I joined.
I was there for the Fahrenheit album and for the 7th 1 album, which is popular in certain territories. I'm not sure about there, to be honest with you, but, but Pamela was a big, was a big hit in the states, and Stop Loving You was the number one song around Europe and a few places, which was, which were, were my
performances. We just played. You sound wonderful.
Oh thanks. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
What would, what would have been cool. Did you finish your thought, sorry.
Yeah, no, no, that's, that's it. I mean, there are other tunes on those records that, that, uh, the diehard fans know, but the, the, the two most popular would probably be, oh, actually a third one, Home of the Brave is another one that's, that's been popular because we've played it every year live and so people kind of expect to hear it.
If I was him and I was, you know, such a good singer at a young age, I'd be like, Dad, can I sing on this Star Wars soundtrack? It'd be much better.
Well, speaking of which, actually, uh, Joseph was saying that how he did actually give his vocals to a lot of Star Wars, in fact, three of the movies you were involved in,
right? That's right.
And one of them was the Ewok celebration. So if I'm not mistaken, you actually are on this one, where you even have the sounds of the Ewoks.
Is that you?
That may have been.
It was so cute. You guys must have had fun in the studio, judging from these sounds.
I can't believe you found this.
Did you compose this?
I, what, what did this little piece of music my dad wrote and he asked me to write words for it in English and that we're gonna that would then be translated into this
Ewok uh language. So what does yupnup actually mean? You're right.
Uh, what does it mean?
Do you remember what you wrote?
I think it was what is
I think it was
yup no, but I think it's power, I think was the word that I gave them.
Yoa
Reach out for Noah, OK.
Very cool, very cool. This is so adorable. Uh, game time. Yes, it is game time. We love to test our guests, you know, with the music prowessness. He says, he says he's not going to be good at this game, but uh I think you'd be all right. I think I might be able to get it. OK, OK, so let's try to start off with this one. This is a reverse song. Try and figure out what song this is.
The 80s.
Any idea?
I, I, I don't, I can't remember the name of the song, but, but, uh, uh.
Ba ba ba ba. I recognize the tune and and I I I want to say the artist who is the artist
Bang the
Bangles, that's right.
Yeah, I think you got it. Walk like an Egyptian, yes, OK, 2nd out of 3, here we go.
No
I don't got it. Is it Michael Jackson?
Yeah,
say, say, OK,
yeah, yeah, good job, good job. OK, let's go back to the 80s on this one.
Yeah, OK. Who is it?
That's
that's 9 to
5. That's
right. That's an unmistakable voices right. You got music in your blood. You got music in your blood. I
I love hearing stuff backwards. That used to be that that was a game we used to play when we were teenagers as we would, we would record phrases and turn the tape around and learn how to say it backwards and then re-record it.
And then turn it around and listen to if we got it close, you know what I'm saying? that
wild. And, and did you use that for maybe for for songs like maybe a uh just a line to be to sound cool?
You know, I never did. I can't speak for Luke or or any of the other guys, but it was just, it was just something that had us howling laughing when we were teenagers.
That is
so wild to say it backwards, flip it, and, and did it come closer?
Yes, it did. I mean, there was, you know, um, uh, there was a friend of ours whose name was Scott. His nickname was Serge, and so, you know, we, we recorded something like, you know, Serge has dog breath, and then we turned that around and it was like, yes, I got her and then we learn that we, we learned how to, we said that back into the tape.
And then turned that around and it came back like as hair as you do so
well. Oh my gosh sounded
like you reverse tape. Yeah, you know, in the 80s, right? I mean, the whole thing was like, oh, it was all devil's music and that was like, oh, it's this song was that a real thing? Did that, did that
actually?
You mean what I'm telling you about?
No, no, no, no. The, the whole, uh, there was some secret message in a song or Pink Floyd song or something. I, I,
I don't know it could be, you know, for us, it just was something that made us laugh hysterically. still does to this day.
That's really cool. We should do that
by the, by the way, sorry, Scott.
You don't have dog breath. I think we're not sure. Uh, Joseph, what can our Singapore audiences and people flying in for this concert expect at the concert on 29th April?
Well, you could, you could expect a great time cause we have a great time and I hope, I hope that comes across. Uh, we love being together. We, we're a band that actually enjoys each other's company and so you can, I think you can, you're gonna get that, that comes across. Um, you know, our show is, is about great, great songs, amazing musicianship, great singing, and, you know, everybody brings it every single night, 100%.
And of course the songs are great and the audiences sing along with us and seem to have a great time and, and, uh, you know, just expect to have a great time.
That's awesome awesome, Joe, thank you so much, man. Thank you for taking time out of your schedule to be on air with us and uh let the gold diggers, uh, get a little vibe of what's, uh, what's to come. Yeah, thank you so much. Have a great one.
Thanks you guys. So great to meet you, Mike, and, and Vinnetta. It's great. Thank you guys have a great day.
