Free speech was a winner in a Tuesday Supreme Court decision but so were kids under the age of 18 and their counselors. In an overwhelming 8-1 vote, the Supreme Court ruled against a Colorado law and upheld the First Amendment right for counselors to speak freely in counseling sessions with minors. Why is this important? The freedom for a counselor to talk through a minor patient’s questions and help them see their true feelings and what they prefer has been labeled “conversion therapy” by many liberals and promoters of the LGBTQ lifestyle. The Supreme Court rightly judged that the professional rights of counselors to treat their patients – and, peripherally, the child’s right to receive that therapy – is what matters most. Is not providing our minor children the best care and guidance what the law should protect?
