Millions of dollars for news, shrouded in mysterious deals
The Judith Neilson Institute for Journalism and Idea's first international Journalist-in-Residence, Bill Grueskin, spent several weeks investigating Australia's News Media Bargaining Code — world-leading legislation designed to compel the most profitable tech companies to pay news publishers for their content.
Grueskin, a professor at New York's Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, spoke to dozens of media industry players, politicians and the publishers affected by the code to uncover its implications in Australia and around the world.
He presented his findings during a special event at the Judith Neilson Institute on March 10, 2022.
