As we commemorate Youth Month, the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) is rolling out a variety of projects and programmes aimed at empowering
and supporting young persons with disabilities. These initiatives are designed to provide access to
opportunities, skills development, employment pathways, potential sponsors, and assistive devices that can help young people become more independent and active
participants in society.

June 16 this year marks the 50th anniversary of the
Youth Uprising in South Africa in 1976, when school
students took to the streets in Soweto to protest the
apartheid government’s decision to impose Afrikaans–
as a medium of instruction. Brutally killed and injured
when the police opened fire, they left behind bloody
scars and a nation in turmoil.
50 Years later how do solve today’s critical challenges
and give room for young people to lead us to the
solutions we need? Dr. Shaka Sisulu suggests that
Africa’s future should not only be discussed through the
lens of politics alone.

Gerda Steyn set a new up-run record with a time of 5:44:53, marking her fourth consecutive title,and her fifth win overall in the Ultimate Human Race. George Kusche set a new up-run record,
he crossed the line a record time of 5:16:06 after a perfectly paced run in which he only took the lead with less than an hour to go of the race.

Other Participants included:
Deputy of Minister of Finance David Masondo ran the marathon
for the 8th time and ran for 10 hours 33 min.
Deputy Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure Sihle Zikalala
ran the comrades for the 1st time. Member of Parliament from
Rise Mzansi Makashule Gana ran for 10 hours 35min.
Broadcaster Redi Tlhabi 10 hours 58 min.
