THE LETTER Guest MBALI MASHABA & THOBO KHATHOLA
Dear Mapaseka
My son is 17 and is repeating grade 10, he is meant to be in grade 11 this year but
did not make it. The challenge is that he is distracted by all the wrong things; teachers say he does not concentrate in class, he dates multiple girls, hangs with
friends that smoke and drink.
I have tried to find a tutor for him he can’t seem to find one he connects with and I
can’t keep this expense when he is not showing seriousness. How do I motivate him
to prioritise his academics I am a single mother and his father lives in another province and never calls or visit him. Sometimes I feel he is isolated and never shares how he truly feels with me.
How can I tutor him at home and force to make time even though I word odd hours
and leave him mostly by himself.
