Dear Mapaseka
I am a 38 year old woman who has been married for 5 years. My husband is 41 and an incredibly supportive partner. We are doing well in the various areas of our lives especially our careers.
I came into the marriage with a young son who is now in primary school. My husband accepts him as his own and he lives with us. He has no kids and is desperately hoping to be a parent to at least two children of his own. We have been trying for the entire duration of our marriage without success.
After medical consultations it seems my womb could be the challenge as it struggles
to retain the pregnancies. After 2 miscarriages i am losing hope, it is affecting our
communication as he is suddenly frustrated when we speak of children.
I asked him if we should consider a surrogate who is a stranger; he is not willing
to consider this option and his family is pushing him to go back to his ex and
to take her as a second wife or to simply divorce me as they do not think my
son should be his heir. My son uses my surname.
The strain on my marriage is heavy. Can my marriage survive without children?
I do not want him to take a second wife, am I being selfish? I love him and don't
want a divorce.
