Dear Ausi Mapaseka
I am a 32 year old new bride; i come in the marriage with a
4 year old son and my husband of 8months comes with his
2 daughters under 10. We are planning to have one or two
more kids. My biggest challenge in the midst of elections
news Is that for the first time ever i have a partner that has no
interest in politics and has not voted ever in his life due to his
religious beliefs. His family does not vote; he says his church
Has no stance in politics or affiliation to any party. We spoke
About it when we dated but never came to a conclusion; he
Assumed i would take on his beliefs 100%, and instead i
Attend church services and fulfill some requirements that
include the style of clothes to wear, but i draw the line to voting
I refuse to not participate in my democratic right. I said to him
I respect his choice even though I don't agree with it.
Why can’t he respect mine? He told me to not vote instead
Of suggesting, i refused and went ahead and voted.
We are not talking today and he wants to call a family meeting
Saying i am disrespecting his authority. He says he will not
Have children who vote. And wont defy his religious beliefs.
I want to raise my son to be involved in politics and any
children I may have. We dated for 2 and a half years; how
Do i resolve this; i love my husband and he is a great and
Loving man but this is truly difficult for me. What would be the
compromise?
