Ben Rosen: Srap & Bourbon

View descriptionShare

Today I sat down with my friend Ben Rosen — founder of Onyx & Amber Whiskey Co. and third-generation owner of Atlas Metal & Iron — for one of those conversations that reminds you how disconnected most people are from the industries that actually keep the country running.

We talked about the scrap business, the political and regulatory battles that come with operating an industrial company in a modern city, and how politicians often create laws around industries they don’t fully understand. Ben broke down what it’s really like running a legitimate scrap operation, dealing with theft issues, environmental regulations, and fighting to protect a family business that’s been around since the 1950s.

Then we shifted into bourbon. Ben shared how a family tradition turned into an award-winning whiskey company, why Colorado’s climate creates such unique flavor profiles, and how Onyx & Amber ended up winning “World’s Best American Style Whiskey” at the World Whiskey Awards.

We also talked entrepreneurship, innovation, overregulation, military charities, and why people are craving products and businesses that actually feel authentic again.
