Let Us Reason 133 - The Muslim Idiom Translation with Adam Simnowitz (Part 1)

Mel and Al continue to discuss the origin of the name Mehmet and today they discuss what the Sufis think and believe. They say that Mehmet was the source of light and Adam was created by him. This name was used to refer to God/ Jesus, and later evolved to refer to an Arabian prophet.  Mehmet was originally a title and it was used for centuries before it was changed to Mohammad.  In other words Mehmet was a reference to God; the highly praised one, and was applied to Jesus on coins.

They also discuss the term Angel of the Lord in Genesis 16: 8-10 , 22:11-12 who Christians believe is the the Lord Jesus is the only one that can claim the promises in those verses.

Next they talk about the references in the Quran to a person called Mehmet and Ahmed.  They discuss Suras 47:2, 45:29 and 19:30-31. They point to how the name fits in being used in reference to Jesus.
