In this episode of Khetha, we discuss the transitional arrangements for pre-2009 qualifications registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
Pre-2009 qualifications, also known as legacy qualifications, have reached important transition points on the NQF. This episode helps learners, students, parents, training providers, employers and the general public understand what the transition means, why it is happening, and how it affects those who already hold older qualifications.
The conversation explains South Africa’s shift from older legacy qualifications towards current occupational qualifications that are more aligned with today’s workplace, industry needs, technology changes and future skills requirements. The programme also highlights the roles of SAQA, QCTO, SETAs, training providers and other stakeholders in supporting a fair and coordinated transition.
A key message in this episode is that all authentic qualifications already achieved through legitimate, accredited and quality-assured systems remain valid. Learners who have not yet completed their qualifications should stay informed about final enrolment and achievement dates, and where necessary, prepare to transition into registered occupational qualifications.
Listeners are encouraged to use official channels for information and support. For occupational qualifications and transitional arrangements, contact QCTO. For NQF information, qualification verification or foreign qualification evaluation, contact SAQA.
