I first met Jeff when I was presenting the Shabbat Shalom program at J-AIR, then joining the board of management where Jeff was the most dedicated and talented treasurer, and George was the station President. The Jeff Degen who I was blessed to get to know the last 7-8 years was mensch, who always put others before himself, volunteering with many organisations, which was most deservedly acknowledged last year, with him being presented the B'Nai Brith Menorah award for service to the community of volunteers who have given of themselves for long periods of time. No question that was Jeff, a true testament of the mensch who was devoted to his family, his pride and joy. Jeff had a committed love for the Jewish community and Israel. As with Freda last week, there was a large attendance at the funeral and minyan, again reflecting the love and respect the community had for Jeff. As for foreign aid to UNRWA, no Australian taxpayer dollars should be going to support anything that could promote extremism, extremist ideology and to incite any type of violence based on any type of hatred on terrorist grounds. The concerns about UNRWA are long standing with questions for the Albanese Government to answer, about why correspondence from the Jewish community was ignored, along with UNRWA employee involvement in the October 7 feverish, barbaric evil. There needs to be alternatives to UNRWA. The Palestinians in Gaza are suffering as a consequence of Hamas; the future for the Palestinians begins with security for Israel. Our Federal and State Government need to do much, much more in addressing the hateful, rising antisemitism in Australia. Gaza is divided into 3 parts north, central and south, Effi tells us that the IDF is now pretty much in full control of the North, with 12 of the 24 Hamas battalions out of commission with the IDF continuing to dismantle the Hamas structure and also having eliminated the 5th most senior Hamas commander. Parallel to dismantling Hamas out of the Gaza strip the focus is on bringing home the 240 hostages with something appearing to be in the offering. It's laughable how Hamas continues to fudge the number of civilian deaths with no mention of the eliminated terrorist, they are claimed to be all civilians and the world media continues to fall for it. The Washington rally was a fabulous show of support for Israel and against antisemitism. Effi tells us to stand up and be counted, with the time of the timid Jew, well and truly over. Mandy Worby, a radio announcer for nearly 30 years is on Vision Radio Monday-Friday from 12 noon to 3 pm sharing positive segments about Israel and also does a daily radio spot called Foundations, connecting the Hebraic roots of the Christian faith. Title: Exploring Israel with Effi – Ein Afek Nature Reserve (*from 45:54 mins) Description: Maurice Kleinspeaks with L’Chaim – To Life radio tour guide Effi Yaacobi, who takes us to the Ein Afek Nature Reserve in the Acre Valley within the Zvulun Valley. It covers the swamps and springs at the source of the Na'aman River, as well as the Tel Afek  archaeological site. The origin of the name is the biblical city of Afek.  The highlights of the park include the Crusader fortress and the natural water canals and lake, which draw their waters from the year-long flowing springs of Afek, which are the source of the Na'aman River. The Ein Afek Nature Reserve preserves swampland and waterway sources the majority of which have been lost in Israel. Along the swamp pathway in the Reserve, visitors 'float’ over swamp surrounded by rich riverbank vegetation and colourful waterbirds and flora and fauna. Visitors can walk across the picturesque bodies of water on floating wooden walkways and follow the Swamp Pathway. This is a unique experience when you are virtually walking on water. Other attractions in the park include the ancient two-story flour mill.
