Morry Frenkel speaks with Philip Zajac, President of the Jewish Community Council of Victoria (JCCV) about the importance of individuals lodging submissions to the Royal Commission on Anti-Semitism and Social Cohesion. He believes these will resonate much more with the Commission than submissions from the major Jewish community organisations. Philip also talks about the improved relationship the JCCV has with the Victorian Government since his calls two years ago for action to be taken against the rise in antisemitism, but he expresses his concern that there are too few prosecutions of people committing antisemitic acts. Philip describes the “JCCV’s Educate 10,000” program, which is designed to provide Victorians outside the Jewish community with information on the long history of Jews in Australia, Kashrut, the centrality of Israel to Jewish life and 21st-century antisemitism.
