Hops Could Help Protect Against Alzheimer’s Disease

View descriptionShare

Could drinking beer in your 20s and 30s protect you from the onset of Alzheimer’s disease in your 60s? Well, a new Italian study finds that hops, which give many varieties of beer their bitter flavor, are also capable of preventing harmful proteins from clumping together in the brain, possibly preventing Alzheimer’s. The research team in Italy were looking at “nutraceuticals,” foods that serve a medicinal or nutritional function and found the link with the hop extract. And with a deeper look into this research, we turn to our new brain health editor.
